HANDICAP SUBCOMMITTEE EMERGENCY POLICY

This policy document is issued to the handicap organizer(s) along with a single page document that outlines tasks and responsibilities for all volunteers.

Handicap Organizers are requested to make every attempt to ensure that all course marshals are equipped with mobile phones and are aware of a contact number at the finish area and the Emergency number. (000 or 112 for mobiles unable to access 000)

Emergencies in Areas Remote from the Finish Area

·        In the event of a life threatening emergency that has occurred on a part of the course that is remote from the finish area the course marshal, after being informed of such an event or has witnessed such an event should immediately call 000 or 112 for an ambulance and then advise the organizer of this action.

The organizer will then attempt to arrange transport for the St John’s First Aid officer or other qualified First Aider to the emergency site.

·        In the event of an emergency which is not life threatening the course marshal should immediately advise the handicap organizer who will consult with the St John’s First Aid officer or other qualified First Aider on the need to call an ambulance.

The organizer will then attempt to arrange transport for the St John’s First Aid officer or other qualified First Aider to the emergency site.

·        Should an ambulance proceeding to a life threatening emergency be delayed by a locked gate the handicap organizer should offer the ambulance driver the use of the bolt cutters stored in the Handicap trailer to obtain access.

Emergencies in Areas Close to the Finish Area

·        The St John’s First Aid officer or other qualified First Aider will deal with the emergency and call 000 or 112  for an ambulance if required.
